I woke up right before my 7am alarm. My sweater was dry and smelled great. My gloves smelled great. The second half of the tour was off to a fresh start. We didn’t overdo it last night, which was a good thing. My teeth got a good flossing last night. Unfortunately it had been a while. Cleanliness level #1 is my goal. I enjoyed a nice coffee and morning conversation with Sam, and then he drove me back to Scotty’s Log Bar in Royalton. It was sad to say goodbye. He had a busy day scheduled in court. Northern Tier Day #54 July 13, 2019 Sam Owen Campground & State Park, ID to Cusick, WA 86 Miles Ride Time 6:33 Tour Total 4239 Miles details at: https://cyclemeter.com/058ffe3224dd3702/Cycle-20190713-0750-44715 I slept well in my tent in the overflow area at Sam Owen Campground & State Park, adjacent to the Lost Hope Resort. I camped with Team Spokane. Last night, after my twilight dip, I returned to the bar for a few more beers and to complete yesterday’s report. I wanted to smack the noisy drunken revelers but restrained myself. I noticed a fantastic bonfire down on the beach. The State Park was on a peninsula that jut out into Lake Pend Oreille, a huge 1,500 foot deep body of water that the US Navy has been using since World War II for submarine testing. I had awoken to rain sprinkles this morning at 5:30am. I went to check on my laundry but it was fine. I put my tent in the sun, while packing, and it wasn’t that damp when I rolled it up. I was so tired that not only could I not finish my blog post, I was unable to finish my beer. In the morning, I could hear people talking downstairs and the light was coming through my window. It was time to get up. But what a slow start. I spent an hour laying in bed editing and posting yesterday’s report. My first stop was Bea’s Cafe, where I had the #1 - eggs, toast, and home fries. I drank two cups of orange juice. I was trying to get myself psyched for the Kank, the first challenging pass on the Northern Tier. In comparison to the TransAm, the Kank is like Afton Mountain.
